Little Helpers: The Bees
Read it
Did you know that about one out of every three bites of food you eat is there because of bees? When a bee visits a flower to drink sweet nectar, tiny yellow dust called pollen sticks to its fuzzy body. The bee carries that pollen to the next flower, and that is how many plants make fruit and seeds.
Bees help apples, berries, and even pumpkins grow. Without bees, our gardens and farms would grow far less food for people to eat.
You can help bees, too. Planting flowers and leaving out a shallow dish of water gives bees food and a safe place to rest. Small actions add up when everyone helps.
