Two-Step Builder Stories

Stack two small steps and you can solve a problem that looked too big at first.

The idea

A two-step problem needs two moves. Do the first step, write down that answer, then use it to finish the second step. Take them one at a time.

Think it through

Zoe makes 5 packs of stickers with 4 stickers in each pack. Then she gives 6 stickers to a friend. How many stickers does she have left?

Ben saves 6 dollars each week for 3 weeks. Then he spends 5 dollars on a gift. How much money does he have left?

A class bakes 12 muffins in the morning and 8 more in the afternoon. They share them equally onto 4 plates. How many muffins go on each plate?

Amara fills 3 boxes with 6 crayons in each box. Then she finds 4 more crayons and adds them. How many crayons does she have now?

Work all the way through to finish. 3 of 4 right and it’s hers.
