Name the Fraction
Once you can name a fraction, you can talk about any fair share.
The idea
The bottom number tells how many equal parts the whole is cut into. The top number tells how many of those parts are shaded. Count both to name the fraction.
Equal shares
The bar is cut into equal parts. How much is shaded?
A ribbon is split into equal parts. How much is shaded?
The shape shows equal parts. How much is one piece?
A garden is shared into equal parts. How much is shaded?
The pie is cut into equal parts. How much is two pieces?
The whole is shared into equal parts. How much is all of it shaded?
