Making Change Stories
Knowing how much change to expect keeps you sharp — and no one can shortchange you.
The idea
To find change, subtract the cost from the money you handed over. What is left is your change. Keep the units the same — dollars with dollars, or cents with cents.
Think it through
Sam has 10 dollars. He buys a book that costs 7 dollars. How much change does he get back?
A snack costs 45 cents. Maya pays with 50 cents. How much change does she get back?
Leo buys a toy for 8 dollars and hands the cashier 20 dollars. How much change does he get back?
A sticker costs 25 cents. Nadia pays with 30 cents. How much change does she get back?
Work all the way through to finish. 3 of 4 right and it’s hers.
