Halves and Fourths

Sharing a snack fairly is really just fractions — you already know more than you think.

The idea

A fraction shows equal parts of one whole. The bottom number tells how many equal parts in all. The top number tells how many parts we mean.

Equal shares

The shape shows one snack shared into equal parts. How much is one piece?

A pizza is cut into equal parts. How much is one piece?

The bar is split into equal parts. How much is shaded?

The whole is shared into equal parts. How much is shaded?

A sandwich is cut into equal parts. How much is three pieces?

The circle shows equal parts. How much is one piece?
