Equal-Groups Stories
Counting equal groups is multiplication — and it is everywhere once you look.
The idea
When a story has the same number in each group, you can multiply. Find how many groups there are and how many are in each group, then count them all together.
Think it through
Maya packs 4 baskets, and she puts 6 apples in each basket. How many apples does she pack in all?
A shelf has 3 rows of books, with 5 books in each row. How many books are on the shelf?
Theo sets up 5 tables, and he puts 4 chairs at each table. How many chairs does he set up?
Priya fills 2 bags with 8 marbles in each bag. How many marbles are there in all?
